Awaovieyi was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and raised in Toronto, Canada. He is a founding member of The Obsidian Theater Company in Toronto. His friends call him "woov'.

Over the years Awaovieyi has appeared in numerous local and international stage, film and television projects. Resume and demo reel are posted below.

some highlights...

Awaovieyi recently completed shooting the independent film, Billy.
Other film credits includ, Musa opposite Akosua Busia and Bruce Willis in the military thriller Tears of The Sun, directed by Antoine Fuqua. In John Singleton’s , Four Brothers, he played the ruthless assassin Stanley. He played, Otavie, in the independent Canadian feature film Red Deer which won a Best First Feature citation at the Toronto International Film Festival 2001 and Best Feature Film award at The Victoria Film Festival in 2002. On television Awaovieyi played Azu in the Vision TV pilot Hotel Babylon and Luther Steele in Street Time. On stage he played Chris in A Common man’s Guide to Loving Women (Fire Hall Theater), Teddy in Night Song After Death (Summer Works Festival/ Obsidian Theater), Christopher in the critically acclaimed British drama Blue/Orange (Belfry Theatre/ Prairie Theater Exchange and The Man in Recent Experiences (Melbourne Australia Festival).

Upcoming...

Awaovieyi will play Asagai in Soul Pepper Theater remount Production of, A Raisin in The Sun. The run will begin Toronto October-Nov. 2010 Check www.soulpepper.ca for exact dates.

bet you didn't know...

Awaovieyi is also a leather craft artist creating under the alias "WOOV". He taught himself a leather crafting technique called "tooling" with which he has created some of the most original and unique pieces of "wearable art". Awaovieyi is currently working on his newest collection, "Visions Distilled" which is intended for the gallery rather than the showroom.
